The Sauti Field app
Install, pair a phone, work offline, sign up supporters and report incidents.
The Sauti Field app is an Android app for volunteers and polling agents. It downloads assigned work, works offline for days and syncs when there is signal. Phones only ever hold masked details.
What volunteers can do in the app#
- Work walk routes and record visit outcomes.
- Work call lists through the phone bank.
- See tasks, events and updates from coordinators.
- Answer field surveys (anonymous).
- Sign up supporters, if your organisation has this on.
- Share approved messages from their own WhatsApp or SMS.
- Report incidents with a photo and location.
- See leaderboards for their campaign.
Polling agents also use it for check-in, turnout, incidents and results on election day. See the Polling agent guide.
Installing the app#
Install Sauti Field using the download link on Field › Field app (from Google Play once the app is published there). The page shows the minimum app version; older versions are asked to update.
Pairing a phone#
Pairing connects one phone to one volunteer's account.
- The volunteer needs a sign-in account with a field role, linked to their volunteer record. See Volunteers and teams.
- A coordinator opens Field › Field app, picks the volunteer under Pair a phone and chooses Create pairing code.
- The volunteer opens the app, signs in and enters the code. The code works once and expires in minutes.
- The phone appears under Paired phones with its last sync time.
App sign-ins last 7 days and refresh while the phone keeps syncing with a valid sign-in.
Lost or replaced phones#
Under Paired phones, choose Sign out and wipe. The phone is signed out and its local data is wiped the next time it connects. Pair the new phone with a fresh code.
Posting updates#
Use Post an update for short briefings: where to meet, what changed, what to say. Choose who sees it, how long it shows (1 to 30 days, or until removed) and whether to pin it. Updates reach phones on their next sync. Do not type phone numbers or emails.
Messages volunteers can share#
Create a message under Messages volunteers can share. A second person approves it before it appears in the app. Volunteers then send it from their own phone to people they know. Sauti never sees who receives these messages.
Supporter sign-up#
Your organisation may allow sign-up from the app in one of two ways, set by the Sauti team:
| Mode | How it works |
|---|---|
| Join link or QR | Each volunteer shares a personal join link or QR code; supporters type their own number |
| Volunteer enters number | The volunteer enters the number with the supporter's agreement; it is encrypted on arrival |
The page shows new supporters in the last 7 days and top recruiters. You can set a welcome message: new supporters get a short SMS confirmation sent as a normal send, so opt-outs, consent, the wallet and review rules apply. Sign-ups within a few minutes share one send.
Incident inbox#
Incidents reported from the app appear at the top of Field › Field app, newest open first, with category, time, approximate location and severity. Acknowledge and Resolve them as you act.
