Supporter verification
Check whether new sign-ups are registered voters, with costs shown before you start.
Supporter verification checks whether new supporters are registered voters, so your team can focus registration drives where they are needed. It is set up per organisation by the Sauti platform team.
Modes#
| Mode | What happens |
|---|---|
| Off | No verification |
| Volunteer checks the voter card | The volunteer confirms registration from the voter card at sign-up |
| Automatic on request | Supporters are checked when you press Resolve |
| Automatic in the background | New sign-ups are checked automatically. Imported lists are checked only when you press Resolve list |
Using the page#
Open People › Supporter verification and pick a campaign. You see counts and a list for each result:
- Not checked
- Checking
- Registered
- Not registered
- Failed or paused
To check people, press Resolve on one person, or Resolve list for everyone not yet checked. In automatic modes, each check costs a fixed amount from your wallet. The page shows the maximum cost and your balance before you start, and you must tick I accept the cost.
What happens behind the scenes#
- Phone and ID numbers are never shown to campaign staff. ID numbers are encrypted with your organisation's key; the list shows only the last two characters.
- Only the sending service opens the details needed for a check, and the reply from the checking service is not stored.
- If the checking service is unavailable, Sauti retries after 1, 5, 15 and 60 minutes, then marks the check failed so you can try again later.
- If your wallet is too low, checks pause and resume hourly once you top up.
- Imported people are never checked automatically, only sign-ups (in background mode) and people you choose.
- Duplicate ID numbers in the same campaign are detected.
Every check and every settings change is audited.
