Getting started

Your first week

A step-by-step checklist to take a new campaign from sign-up to its first approved send.

Use this checklist to take a new campaign from its first sign-in to its first approved send. Each step links to a detailed guide.

Day 1: secure the organisation#

  1. Owner signs in and changes the temporary password. Add a passkey. See Signing in securely.
  2. Review organisation settings: display name, logo, SMS signature, quiet hours, frequency caps and approval policy. See Organisation settings.
  3. Read the draft tenant agreement (Settings › Organization) with your legal adviser.

Day 2: bring the team in#

  1. Create accounts or send invitations for your managers, communications officers, finance officer and coordinators. Give each person the narrowest role and area that lets them do their job. See Team members and passwords.
  2. Create custom roles only if the built-in ones do not fit. See Roles and permissions.

Day 3: money and identity#

  1. Top up the wallet by M-PESA or card. See Wallet and top-ups.
  2. Request a sender ID in Messaging › Senders. Network approval can take several days, so start early. See Sender IDs and shortcodes.

Day 4: supporters#

  1. Bring in your first supporter list. Agree its source and lawful basis with the Sauti data team, who load it securely, then follow it in People › Import status. See Importing supporter lists.
  2. Add tags and custom fields you will want to target, for example "Youth group" or "Market traders". See Tags and custom fields.
  3. Build an audience by area and tag, and check the live count. See Building audiences.

Day 5: first send#

  1. Write a template in English and Kiswahili with safe fallbacks. See Templates and personalisation.
  2. Compose the send, review reach and cost, and submit it. See Sending a campaign.
  3. Approve it from a different account if your policy requires approval. See Approvals and content screening.
  4. Watch delivery on the dashboard and answer replies in the inbox. See Inbox and replies.
