Supporters and audiences

Tags and custom fields

Organise people with labels and campaign-specific fields you can target and personalise with.

Tags#

Tags are simple labels such as "Youth group", "Market traders" or "Event: Nyeri rally". Open People › Tags.

  • Create a tag with a name and colour.
  • Apply to a selection: choose a tag, a saved selection and Add tag or Remove tag. Changes only affect people inside your assigned area, and applying a tag never triggers a send.
  • Archive tags you no longer use. Archived tags keep their history.

Use tags in audiences and journeys (journeys can add or remove tags automatically).

Custom fields#

Custom fields hold campaign-specific information, for example "Preferred meeting day" or "Group membership". Open People › Custom fields (you need whole-campaign management permission).

  1. Enter a label that people will see.
  2. Choose a stable field key, for example meeting_day. Keys, types and choice lists cannot be changed later, so saved values keep their meaning.
  3. Choose a type: text, number, yes/no, single choice or multiple choice. For choice fields, enter one choice per line.

Custom fields can be:

  • filled in on a person's record, by import, or by survey answers;
  • used as audience filters;
  • used as merge fields in templates, if approved for personalisation.

Important: Never create custom fields for phone numbers, emails, ID numbers or sensitive personal data such as health, religion or ethnicity. Contact fields are never available as merge fields.
