Opt-outs, quiet hours and caps

STOP, ACHA and SITAKI, suppression levels, quiet hours, frequency caps and election silence.

Opt-outs#

A person can stop your messages at any time by replying:

  • STOP
  • ACHA
  • SITAKI

and common variants of these words. Opt-outs:

  • take effect immediately, before any other processing of the reply;
  • apply to every send, journey, retry, recurring occurrence and survey;
  • cannot be switched off by any setting, by your organisation or by Sauti.

Every SMS ends with the opt-out instruction, added automatically.

Suppression levels#

Level Set by Effect
Channel Opting out on one channel No more messages on that channel from your organisation
Organisation A person asking your campaign to stop everything No messages from your organisation on any channel
Platform An objection to political messaging, an erasure request or a complaint No messages from any organisation on Sauti

The platform suppression list stores only one-way hashes, never the numbers themselves.

If a person later wants to hear from you again, they must opt back in themselves. Your team cannot re-subscribe them.

Quiet hours#

National quiet hours are 21:00 to 07:00 Nairobi time. Promotional messages are not delivered during quiet hours. You can extend quiet hours in Settings › Organization, never shorten them. For each send you choose whether recipients reached at quiet hours are deferred to the morning or skipped.

Frequency caps#

Set the maximum number of messages one person can receive per day and per week in Settings › Organization. Your plan may set a lower cap. The composer warns you how many people may hit a cap.

Election silence#

During legally mandated campaign-silence periods, the Sauti team switches on an election-silence window that blocks all promotional sends for every organisation. Plan your last messages before the window starts.
