Gender and age filters
When the stated gender and age filters are available, and the safeguards that come with them.
Some campaign activities are genuinely for a specific group: a sanitary-towel drive for women, or a bursary for people aged 18 to 35. For these, Sauti can filter audiences by the gender and age that a person's record states.
Off until switched on#
The filters are off for every organisation by default. The Sauti platform team switches them on for your organisation after you explain the purpose. The reason is recorded and audited.
When they are on, Messaging › Audiences shows a Gender and age block with:
- gender: female, male or other;
- age from and to, between 18 and 120;
- banded counts for the campaign.
Safeguards built in#
- Nothing is guessed. Only gender and birth details already in the record are used. Sauti never infers gender from a name or age from anything else, and never scores people.
- No minors. While the filters are on, people known to be under 18 are left out of every audience in your organisation. People whose age is unknown stay in.
- Minimum audience size. An audience using gender or age must reach at least 20 people (or the higher minimum set for your organisation). This is checked again at send time.
- Ages are never overstated. If only a birth year is known, Sauti assumes the birthday has not yet come this year.
Use it responsibly#
Use these filters only to make messages relevant. Do not use them to exclude groups from information they are entitled to, and do not combine them with other filters to single out individuals.
